ROCHESTER, Minn. — Students at the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester received an unexpected gift on Wednesday: a free laptop and a backpack filled with school supplies.

This surprise was made possible by AT&T and Human-I-T. AT&T also announced a $30,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester to support digital literacy programs.

“Children of all ages and backgrounds deserve access to tools that will help them thrive in the classroom,” said Chad Campbell, CEO, Boys & Girls Club of Rochester. “These laptops will help open doors and unlock a world of learning, and these backpacks will provide students with the basic supplies they need to be successful in school. We are so grateful to receive these gifts, along with a $30,000 contribution from AT&T to help us provide the digital literacy skills and training our members need for academic success.”

The initiative provided 350 refurbished laptops to students with limited internet access. Many Club members lack technology at home to complete their homework.

“In today’s digital age, access to technology is a necessity – not a luxury,” said Cheryl Riley, President, AT&T Northern Plains. “We are proud to collaborate with the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester to help close the digital equity gap and provide youth with the essential resources they need to succeed in the classroom and achieve their full potential.”

The $30,000 contribution will support the Club’s Edmentum program, which uses digital curriculum to enhance skills in reading and math. The Club says this program helps connect learning to real-world situations.

AT&T’s efforts are part of a broader initiative to bridge the digital divide, committing $5 billion to help 25 million people connect to high-speed internet by 2030.
